Bin Laden’s Death – Does Removing the Cancer Solve the Problem?

The immediate celebratory reaction of the masses to the news of Bin Laden’s death a few weeks ago expressed the idea that bad people must be eliminated, that by wiping these destructive cancers out, our society and the “earth body” will be saved. I am not surprised by the reaction of the masses, and maybe a bit of me celebrated also, but until the root cause of the disease is taken care of we will continue to have these “cancers” resurging.

The root cause of most all personal and global destruction is destructive thinking which is a by-product of two things: first the unawareness of and lack of control of human instincts (which at one time was essential for survival); and secondly the unawareness of and lack of control of our programmed minds (all the ideas and beliefs downloaded into us by our parents, schools, religions, experiences, etc).

We have to be open to other ways of treating these problems such as the way that most alternative healthcare treats cancers in the human body – by optimizing health. The proponents of these types of treatments believe that blasting the cancers should be secondary to a primary effort of taking care of the toxicities and deficiencies in the body until optimal health is built – if lacking vitamin d, get appropriate amount of sunshine; if body is toxic because of the environment, change the environment.

Yes, sometimes in defence of an attack or a tumour we must wipe out these cancers with aggressive actions, until we have a chance to build health. But, many times, blasting the cancer will only be a temporary solution. I’ve seen four of my friends die using the cut, chemo and radiate method. We must be proactive not just reactive. When faced with a cancer we must respond with careful consideration of ALL information including gentler alternative approaches that work at supporting and building the immune system.

Last year while taking a stroll with a friend on a beautiful spring day I was chatting about his ongoing battle with cancer. I bluntly but compassionately asked him about other approaches to cancer and he said he didn’t believe that they would work and would stick to the conventional approach. I sadly attended his funeral 5 months later.

We are likely one of the last generations to hold any such stance of shooting the red warning light off the dash of the car and expect the problem in the engine to be solved. Bin Laden was a red light; lack of awareness and control over our programming and instincts is the societal problem in the engine.

Our children, ALL around the world, from all countries, all cultures, will do better…even the children of the radicals. Some of the children of the fundamentalists have “seen the light” and joined a civil global constructive dialogue. Eventually we will evolve to a ‘better’ way such as shown by the avatars of our religions - Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Tzu, etc - who promoted “higher” states of consciousness such as “let’s do no harm”…or better yet, “let’s do lots of good”.

We must receive input, reflect and respond proactively and constructively…not receive input, react and retaliate destructively. Instead of spending massive amounts of human, financial, and other resources towards destroying the cancers of our bodies and society, shooting the red light, we must spend our resources towards healing ourselves and the planet.

This “healing” will likely happen soon – it is a transitional time and transitions nowadays seem to be happening faster and faster – just take a look at the acceptance of the internet and social media. Yes in the past it took time for change and the acceptance of change.

When human ingenuity first presented the mechanized weaving apparatus for the textile industry in the early nineteenth century it was radically opposed by the luddites; when women first won the right to vote not every woman wanted to vote...it took time. What took years, decades or even centuries to adapt to a new “better” way is now taking days, hours, minutes. If we are able to be aware of and control our programmed minds and one-time-absolutely-necessary survival instincts we will rapidly evolve to that higher state.

This entire essay basically says that taking a life, regardless of how apparently brutal that person may have been, is not always the best or only answer – let’s get to the root of the cancer, the cause of the red warning light – unfettered instincts and programmed minds – and heal, grow and evolve from there.
